Words of Awakening with Ayya Anandabodhi
May 12, 2020 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Join Ayya Anandabodhi, co-founding teacher of Aloka Vihara Forest Monastery, for an evening of poetry and teachings from the new poetry collection, “The First Free Women,” featuring verses of Awakening from the Early Buddhist Nuns. While these women lived long ago, their teachings and insights are as alive and relevant to us today as if they were sitting in our midst, sharing their experiences of Awakening with us directly.

Ayya Anandabodhi co-established Aloka Vihara Forest Monastery (alokavihara.org), where women are welcome to train as nuns in the Theravada tradition and lay visitors can practice. Ayya’s teachings are guided through nature’s pure and immeditate Dhamma in the context of early Buddhist scriptures. Before taking full Bhikkhuni Ordination in 2011, Ayya lived and trained as a nun at Amaravati and Chithurst monasteries in England.
This event is co-presented by Buddhist Insights and New York Insight Meditation Center, an urban center for the practice of mindful awareness and the Dharma. New York Insight programs include in-person and online talks, weekly sittings, workshops, courses, daylongs and non-residential weekend retreats for the integration of meditation and Buddhist practice into daily life.
“Words of Awakening” is freely offered, as with all events presented by Buddhist Insights. Dana you offer will be appreciated as your heartfelt generosity and shared 50/50 by the nonprofit foundation which financially supports Aloka Vihara – Saranaloka Foundation (alokavihara.org/about/saranaloka-foundation) – and New York Insights. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Thank you
