WEEKEND RETREAT: Mindfulness Study Retreat – Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta

March 31 @ 8:00 pm - April 2 @ 5:00 pm
Rockaway Summer House, 504 Beach 68th Street
Rockaway Beach, NY 11692 United States
+ Google Map

One of the most important discourses taught by the Buddha is the "Great Discourse on the Establishment of Mindfulness" (Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta). This discourse gives a detailed rundown of several ways of practicing mindfulness in four domains of experience - body, feelings, mindstates, and mental objects. It also contains several profound subjects of contemplation that can lead to the development of liberating insight. So whether you're interested in concentration, wisdom, or both, the Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta has much to offer. We'll be spending an entire weekend studying and discussing the Sutta in depth, in between periods of meditation.   This retreat is a semi-silent retreat. Advance registration is required for all participants. Attendance is required for the duration of the entire retreat.  Registration to this retreat does not reserve you a spot. A confirmation email will be sent to participants who have signed-up and completed all registration steps below a week prior, once their application has been approved by management. All others are to be considered on a waiting list. If you register to stay overnight and decide not to attend,…

There are many kinds of Buddhism, and at times they can seem radically different or even contradictory. So how can we reconcile these differences in our quest for enlightenment? This day will be dedicated to connecting with the essence which underlies all Buddhist traditions and investigating how we can honor its multitude of manifestations. WEEKEND RETREAT: The One Who is Not Busy

April 21 @ 8:00 pm - April 23 @ 6:00 pm
Rockaway Summer House, 504 Beach 68th Street
Rockaway Beach, NY 11692 United States
+ Google Map

It is a small luxury to be able to spend more than a few minutes each day sitting zazen. Yet that is precisely what a sesshinproposes - the company of good Dharma friends, the pleasure of simple yet delicious food, and the great gift of vast stretches of silence. Add to that the lovely scenery, inside and out, of the Rockaway house and the practice truly calls to us. The April sesshin, led by Rev. Konin Cardenas, will be an exploration of the Zen teaching of "The One Who is Not Busy." It is a study of the inner and outer experience of stillness and activity. These aspects are all interwoven, inseparable, inescapable. Yet it is rare to take the time to deeply investigate this reality in our lives, to allow it to seep into our conscious experience. This sesshin, a three-day period of sitting and walking meditation, punctuated by chanting and meals, is an opportunity to study the one who is not busy, to experience this one. Please join us and give yourself and the…
